Huge task. Overwhelming. But the end results are worth the effort. As an avid reader, I understand how difficult it is to let go of books. I have about seven bookcases in my house to back up that statement. Periodically I set aside time to sort through them. The ones I truly love and will read again are placed back on the now-polished-fresh shelves. Then there’s the famous to-be-read pile. I’m left with several books scattered across the room(s) and ready to be boxed up. Recycling options:
- a church rummage sale
- a library book sale
- friends who love to read
- City Mission
- Salvation Army
- Church library
- Battered Woman’s shelter
- Blog giveaways
It is a wonderful feeling to clear room on the shelves, re-arrange the titles and pull out the latest CBD catalog because now we have room to order...more books! 🙂

Hi Cynthia! I, too, looove books and have many and have given many more away. I recently came across a very cool new option: Paperback Book Swap. It’s a website to trade books (http://www.paperbackswap.com)! It’s free and so easy. I registered books that I no longer want and can search for books that I want to read. It’s been great fun connecting with the ever shrinking e-global world. 🙂

LOL! Collecting books must be a prerequisite to being a reader or writer. I,too, have several bookcases filled with books PLUS more in storage because our house is so small there’s absolutely no where else to put another bookcase!I tease my husband that if I didn’t “prune” the bookshelves regularly that we would soon be living in the cat shed with all the cats! I checked out the above link from Sharon. Looks easy enough to do. I may have to seriously consider doing that or maybe one of your ideas, Cynthia. Thanks for the fun post!

OOOHHH…books are my weakness! We had one whole room in our Baytown house that was the library, totally lined with bookshelves.
We moved last year to a much smaller house in west Texas. No room for all those bookshelves. I had to box up my precious books and put them in storage. My heart’s broken! I’ve not gone to the storage place to visit them but the time maybe coming.

Wow, I would love to have a room like that! We’re working on one upstairs that has two full bookcases in it already. Is there a way to install some bookshelves in your new home? I’ve seen some rooms with shelves all along the walls closest to the ceiling, lined with books. That way it doesn’t take up floor space and still looks nice.
