Hello, my name is Cynthia. I am a magazineaholic.
The glossy covers and catchy titles lure me in and I fall off the wagon every time I receive a new offer for home decor tips: 12 issues for only $5.99! Sigh. If I could read them and get rid of them I’d be okay but they grow in multiple stacks all over my home. If you also suffer from this magazine affliction, please join me in my plan to simplify:
- Cancel subscriptions. Keep one or two favorites. Certainly not more than three : )
- Recycle old issues. Give away or toss in recycle bin. Deep breath. You can do it.
- Visit local library weekly. Win-win situation. Borrow magazines for a week and return them. You can still admire all those beautiful houses and room layouts (will I ever own a home like this in my lifetime?) and catch up on all the newest household tips without cluttering up your home.
- If you can subscribe to magazines, read them, and rid yourself of them immediately, ignore numbers 1-3 and enjoy!
What areas of your life do you need to simplify?
What is truly bogging you down and cluttering up your life?
Today’s Revelation: The less clutter we have, the more time we can find to write!
Cynthia, you spoke to me! I have this same dilemma. I’ll get something in the mail advertising a magazine I like for only $10 (sometimes less) for an entire year. Before I know it, I have five magazines coming that I never have time to read. You would think that since I work in a library–duh–that I could just read them there!
This is just one area I need to de-clutter. I will take old magazines to doctors’ offices. They seem glad to get them. Even thrift stores will take them and sell for small change.
Thanks for a great post and good suggestions.

Dear fellow magazineaholic,
Carole, I’m so glad you related to this so I don’t feel all alone! Someone also mentioned to me today to take the issues to City Mission or to nursing homes. Thanks for your suggestions about the dr. office and thrift store. I guess I have no more excuses and best get to work boxing them up : )

Thanks for the suggestions, Ladies! My word for this year is simplify so this is what I need to follow thru on. My hubby and I do take our mags to the church and they take them to the nursing home, plus I share some with friends. On to simplify!

Rose, I love the word “simplify.” Aiming to keep this as one of my blog topics so hopefully we can share more good ideas. Good for you for passing on those magazines, I’m still weeding them out!

Funny I should be reading this post when I’m most in need of it! My husband was just saying to me the other day about home decorating magazines -why do you look at the nice pictures when you can’t afford to decorate like that? So true.

Kathleen,
I do enjoy studying the magazines to get ideas from them. I’ve cancelled many subscriptions and now get them out of the library…not as much clutter to sort through!
