Complete revisions (once again) to The Book.
Done! This was number one on my ahem…very long to do list. I was hoping to complete this by end of December but upped the pace so I would have a break through the holidays. I can’t properly express my satisfaction on finishing up that last chapter. Saved the document, emailed several friends to rejoice together and sat back waiting. The Book was ready. Any moment now the phone would ring from my agent. Oh wait. I don’t have one yet. Well then, time to check email. Surely the last editor I had an appointment with would sense through her writerly intuition that it was time to send me an email. Clicking on the keys, I found my inbox held all kinds of quirky messages but none from The Editor. Ah well. I’ve been told these things take time. On that note, I recently read a post from a friend who has been working on her book since around 1997. Amazing. Her commitment and stubborn determination not to give up. This year she won a Genesis award. I think she deserves a special recognition for her perseverance. Waving madly at Kathleen Maher! I am so proud of her. And inspired by her example.
Several posts back we discussed goals for the last three months of 2012. Have you crossed any goals off your list? To celebrate, I’m offering a giveaway on this post. Leave a comment on a project you have completed in the last month or two. From finishing a rough draft of a novel to sending out a query letter. I want to know what you have accomplished…let’s rejoice together! One winner will receive a copy of Hello Hollywood! by Janice Thompson.
Hi Cynthia, (how fondly I remember you from Blue Ridge!) First, congrats on finishing your latest revisions. Revisions are my least favorite part of the writing process, and I have those to complete for a Jan 1 deadline when I return home. (about 2/3 done)And my fingers are crossed regarding all your queries.
now, what’s off my to-do list? You have no idea how long it was when you’re planning to be gone for 5 weeks! My hair started turning grey(er) thinking I wouldn’t finish. Figuring out how to pay the bills while gone was the hardest, so it brought the most happiness. Hopefully, the heat will still be on when we return. Now that we’re here I LOVE being able to write in a new locale. It truly does revitalize an author creatively. (hubby’s on vacation, I must work.) But writing scenes in a beach chair isn’t too hard to deal with. It will hit 80 today. take care until our paths cross again. I’ll be praying for your break into pubb’d.

Mary Ellis,
Okay, I’m curious of where you are on vacation – it sounds lovely! And writing from a beach chair is one of my favorite places to create. When you get stuck on a scene, just wander along the beach for awhile – great way to combine work and pleasure. Thanks for the encouraging words and hope all your revisions go smoothly. And have a wonderful time away – enjoy!

Well, I haven’t finished the project yet as it is a work in progress. I am working on decluttering the house. Does that count? I have decided that it is time to get rid of a lot of stuff.
Blessings,
Jo

Jo,
Decluttering the house is a constant project but well worth the effort. “Stuff” accumulates way too easily. And it feels so much better with a cleaner, organized home! Wishing you much success in your efforts.

Oh I have set a goal to lose weight and finally accomplished it by being very determined and watching what I eat and walking my 4.2 miles a day and exercising. It was rough, about gave up but I did it. babyruthmac16ATyahooDOtcom

I started a blog this last July to review books and I finally contacted all the publishers to see if they provide books. I’m also reading some books I’ve been wanting to get to for months! Also getting my house organized.

Loved this posting. Since I am not a writer (but I do love to read) I have not accomplished any ‘writing goals.’ But I have accomplished a thorough cleaning of the house…does that count?

Karen,
A thorough cleaning of the house is a good thing – especially before the holidays! Now you have time to read more books : )

Oh, Cynthia, I love this post. You had me LOLing and sighing in renewed determination. Thanks so much.
This month I’ve entered a writing contest, submitted requested work to another publisher, and have attempted the querying of agents again.
Now all I need to accomplish is to figure out how to squeeze more hours into my crazy schedule so I can meet with you again ♡

Cynthia! I can’t believe I missed this when I looked at it earlier this week. Thank you so much for the kind mention. I am nobody’s inspiration, though–it just takes me longer to master something than most, I’m guessing. LOL
Congrats on finishing your revisions. I pray your Thanksgiving and Christmas are restful and very happy!

Kathleen,
Well, I beg to differ. It inspired me when I read that in one of your interviews. I think it is wonderful that you haven’t given up and you were an AWARD WINNER this year! That gives me hope for my own efforts which at times seem to move so slowly…
Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Cynthia, I’m glad to say that I finally wrote “The End” on the fourth draft of my YA sci-fi novella last week. I still have some polishing to do, but, it sure felt good to get another re-write done! I’m still working towards the goal of having a blog by the end of December. I have a photographer friend who said she would do a professional picture of me for the blog. Sweet!Loved this post! Anita
