THE WORD – I love the phrase “lively stones.”
Upon further research in the Apostolic Study Bible, this term became clearer and more precious.
“Because of their association through faith with Jesus Christ, the living stone (I Peter 1:21); the new birth (I Peter 1:23) ; and tasting His graciousness (I Peter 2:2-3) believers become “lively stones” themselves.
The Greek word translated “stones” (lithos, not petros) indicates believers are not just rocks existing in their natural state, but stones a craftsman has carefully worked, shaped, and prepared to fit into a structure.”

I love that as we become abandoned into the Hands of Jesus He has/is working, shaping, and preparing us to “fit” into His plans and purposes for our lives that we might offer those sacrifices that are acceptable! Wow!

Hi Cyndy, I left my little comment on your FB. I needed to take time to think about why Peter uses the expression “lively stones”. Also wanted to know what was the purpose of being living/lively (I would add “loving” stones). Got the answer by 1 Peter 2:15-16 “silence the ignorance of foolish men” and not use our “liberty” to be malicious but teaching with love the things of God as Servants of the Most High must do!

Francoise,
I just think that is such a neat term, “lively stones.” Yes, we need to be lively in our walk with Jesus!
