Determined Drive

I found myself back on Determined Drive today, remembering the difficulties of a brand new writer. The questions, insecurities, doubts and fears. A particular situation stands out in my mind where I arrived at a crossroads. I felt inadequate, overwhelmed, and about this high in my confidence level.

But there rose up within me such a determination to write, no matter what anyone else thought or whether I ever reached publication and saw my name in print. A time when God slanted my stubbornness to a good purpose : ) He provided so many friends and mentors along the way as I found my own Determined Drive. I would like to return that favor to others.

If you are a new writer, what would be helpful to you on Lovely Lane?

Writing opportunities? Cheerleading? Discussing writing genres? Book recommendations?

  1. I wish I knew what would be the most helpful. I’m doing Nano now. If I finish this story I’ll have written 2 books this year bringing me up to 4. I think 2012 I need to focus on my next step. I belong to an ACFW critique group. So I’m polishing my favorite story now.
Should I look for an editor? Work on my synopsis and look for an agent? Enter contests? What do you suggest?
    Thanks!

  2. Jackie,
First of all, having almost four books written is an amazing accomplishment in itself – Congrats! I would agree with concentrating on your favorite story for your next step. Draft out your synopsis and polish your first three chapters. I believe that is usually what an editor will request if they are interested in your idea. Then start searching for an editor. Do you attend writers conferences? The best place to make editor and agent appointments to pitch your idea. And start working on your book proposal…
    Hope this helps!
