A Word – Calendar:
-
A table showing the months, weeks, and days in at least one specific year.
- A schedule of events.
My definition: A clean slate, a brand new year with no mistakes, regrets or bad choices. Wide open spaces for God to fill with His perfect plans and purpose.
Every time a New Year rolls in I can’t wait to get out there and find my wall and desk calendars and day planner. I love all those blank pages offering countless opportunities for successful projects, events and life-changing moments. I’m certain God has wonderful things planned for this brand new year.
Shopping for calendars is always a challenge. So many choices. I’m sure you would laugh at the serious consideration I make of this endeavor.
Don’t want it too cutesy, must be somewhat business-oriented yet with an inspirational flair. I pull out several to look over, and look over again, making quite a mess of the store display. When I finally find ones that meet my criteria, I can’t wait to bring them home and start filling in those important dates.
Yes, God has amazing things for us this year. Writer friends: This could be the year you have a book published! Or connect with an agent. Which reminds me, I have to block out May 17th week for my Blue Ridge Mts. Christian Writers Conference : )
Yay, someone else who loves calendars and planners! I receive several calendars each year from ministries or charities and usually another as a Christmas or birthday gift. So, I use one for meal planning. (Don’t want to serve spaghetti or other tomato-based meals too close together.) In an effort to be more organized, I recently set up another to track my freelance work. We keep a master calendar on the refrigerator for day-to-day stuff such as church small group, doctor appointments and such. We duplicate that one with important dates on the cell phones. Just started that recently and those “notifications” that pop up really help. Our most important calendar is where we keep track of trying to bless others. I love saving those and looking back through the years at the joy we spread and the joy we received through giving. Cynthia, I confess that I’m calendar crazy. LOL! 🙂

Kim,
So good to hear from you and realize my friend is another calendar-holic : ) Like the idea of using one just for freelance and writing. I will copy your idea on that one and see how it motivates me.

I’m a calendar person too. Love my laptop and iPod, but I need to have my schedule on paper.

Kimberly,
It’s nice we have so many choices now to help keep us on track! I’m like you, need to still have it on paper…

My life is very quiet, so my calendar doesn’t get very full. I use a wall calendar for ready access, but for my personal use, I have an Erin Condren Life Planner, which is sort of like having a party every time I open it. Stickers, washi tape… lots of fun. It’s a combination of planner and journal. I am considering getting a second one to keep track of my writing and marketing, but I haven’t done that yet.

Hi Cynthia. Like Kim, I receive several calendars in the mail, but they often go unused. It is often the middle of the year before I realize that stack of calendars is not going to get used and toss them. In fact, I’m ashamed to admit the one calendar I do hang has not been replaced with a new one since 2015 started, which is a testament to how seldom I look at it!
I have become more and more reliant on my phone for all of my appointments, and have even started programming in monthly chores, like running the washer through the automatic clean cycle!
I have a “reminder” column in my Excel file for my guest bloggers, but I’ve even started putting those dates when to send a reminder in my phone.
Good grief, I never dreamed I would get so reliant on technology! Maybe I should keep a couple of those calendars around and make “backup” files in the event that technology fails me one of these days!
Enjoyed the article, Cynthia!

I’m not much of a techie person so I totally rely on paper calendars. I have three that I use for various appointments and a small one in my purse. One of these days I plan on getting a SmartPhone, but until then I’ll go paper. Besides, I love all the beautiful nature and kitten pictures I find!

Anita,
I know what you mean, there are so many choices for lovely calendars. I actually have one that is called “Lovely” which of course, I couldn’t resist! Isn’t it fun to plan out the new year?

Would be lost without my wall calendar. Beside writing down all diverse appointments, I like to record births and deaths as well as other happenings. It’s a mini journal!
I do depend on another wall calendar for scheduling the church cleaning; and I like a smaller version of booklet to record the sermons for CD orders. I’m not yet a big digital user.
I’m looking forward to choosing my new calendars every year. Liking all God’s creation… animals, flowers, nature or scriptures. It all depends on the day I pick them up!
