Blue Ridge Moments

Lovely Vonda, my mentor & friend

Karen Moore, sweet, gracious lady

Beth Vogt and her pretty daughter.

My husband & I with Torry Martin (baseball cap), an unbelievably funny guy!

Blue Ridge faithful friends, Jorlyn & Ted

Susie May Warren, one of my fav authors – enthusiasm personified!

If you attended Blue Ridge this year, what were some highlights of the conference?

For me – Yvonne’s keynote, new teachers Beth Vogt and Susie May, Torry’s banquet keynote, and Al’s devotions. Also the caring and supportive staff including teachers and editors.

  1. Hi Cynthia and all,
I love Blue Ridge. Those of you writing a novel might consider the Novel Retreat held in October at Ridgecrest. It’s relaxed, for beginners and published, and no editor/agent appointments. Just focusing on learning and writing the novel. If interested, email me: yvonnelehman3@gmail.com – Loved meeting so many of you at BRMCWC.

  2. Yvonne,
This was my sixth year at Blue Ridge. I started attending while you were still the director, I think that was the year you came in handcuffs escorted by a policeman ( : Thank you for establishing such an awesome conference. The Novel Retreat sounds wonderful and I can’t imagine how beautiful the Blue Ridge Mountains are in October colors – definitely inspirational!

  3. Hi Cynthia, What a beautiful blog!

This was my third time attending BRMCWC (I’ve also attended the Novelist Retreat and it’s such a productive and worthwhile event!) Every conference is different. My last one was about making contacts and winning awards but this one was about deepening relationships with other writers.

Highlights for me were 1)seeing the transformation that comes over Becky Gansky when she’s leading in worship with her signing 2)enjoying belly laughs at all the keynotes, and 3)being called out on a piece of bad writing during a workshop by Jim Rubart. That call out catapulted my work into a new stage of considering excellence in every aspect of my writing from my WIP to my thank you notes.

Relationship highlights were a)getting to know my daughter as a fellow writer, b)growing closer to several of the ladies from the Light Brigade, our online writers accountability group, and c) through the process of being rejected by an editor, discovering a like-minded soul who really gets my work.

Every time I attend, God suprises me with His own conference agenda! Thanks for the blog post that prompted some reflection! Lori

  4. Hi Lori,
Thanks for the compliment on the website. Oh, I agree with you about Becky’s signing, I love to watch how she incorporates that into worship. You’re right about every conference being different. Every year I learn something new whether it is from classes, meeting new and old friends, brainstorming ideas or just finding a quiet corner to meditate on the devotions. No two years are the same and I always come home and marvel at the unique direction that particular conference ended up in, not at all what I expected! Also, I forgot to mention -I loved the worship this year, so glad to see Lynn back.
How wonderful that your daughter was able to attend with you! I do hope she was encouraged in her writing efforts. I’m glad the conference was so productive for you. Hope we all get to go back again next year ( :

  6. Hi Vonda,
Each year we have a photo together but this is truly the nicest one – you look like a movie star : ) So excited that you are going to be in NY this fall, we’re checking out the location and time frame – it’s my birthday weekend!

  7. I LOVE black Mountain. My husband and I used to attend the fall race at Talledega then we would spend a week in Marion NC, mining for gold. I loved to take a day and wander around the shops in Black Mountain…
