Riding around beautiful Sacandaga Lake today in upstate NY to visit some friends. Remembering my family renting camps and cabins here so many years ago when we were young. I tried to locate one of our cabins along the lake marked off by a huge white boulder with “Whispering Pines” written across it in heavy black paint. No such luck. The cabin is probably long gone due to new development along the lakefront.
However, we did find the Old Country Store, right at the edge of the bridge. Of course we had to stop and look it over. Things were different but the outside looked much the same. I was thrilled it was still there. Such memories!
- As a child, coming in sunburnt and happy from swimming in the lake.
- My sister and I just about reaching the height of the counters, facing the difficult decision of which old fashioned candy to choose from the large glass containers.
- Driving around with Mom and Dad in the old fin-tailed Cadillac with our wet hair flying in the breeze.
Do you have special summer memories?
