Christmas is coming. I know, I know, much too soon to be talking about it. Every year I look forward to reading new novels set during the cold and wintery holiday season. But it’s too early for Christmas.
I’ve just finished up some summery stories written around coastal towns and fun beach reads while listening to the waves lap against the shore as perfect background music.
I’ve read some stories set in the springtime but few based on the fall season.
I can think of a couple: Grace in Autumn by Lori Copeland and Angela Hunt & Autumn Dreams by Gayle Roper.
I need suggestions for books written around the fall or Thanksgiving holiday to read against the backdrop of a color-burst autumn in upstate New York.
Any suggestions of books you’ve read/written or new novels coming out?
What is your favorite season to read/write about?
Please note: All those who commented on last post regarding goals – I believe we can do it! Four months and counting to reach our One Major Goal by year end. Please keep me informed of your progress.
As a farewell salute to summer – when you leave a comment on this post you’ll be entered into a drawing to win Talk of the Town by Lisa Wingate. Winner to be announced around next weekend.
I love the pictures of all the seasons. *sigh* I just adore fall. I would recommend an Upstate NY author Ruth Logan Hearne, who writes for Love Inspired. I think she has at least one set in our beautiful autumn season.
No need to enter me for the giveaway, though it looks delightful. Just wanted to stop in and say hi! 🙂

Kathleen,
So glad you like the pics! They’re all my own photos and yes, taken in NY. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll add it to my list.

I think the beginning of Little Women by Alcott is set in the fall – at least November or early December. Also Christy by Catherine Marshall-how about looking up books on the history of the Adirondacks to set the tone for fall?

Cynthia,
I can’t think of any fall books I read, but I love the season. During this time words like change, reflect and quietness come to mind. It is also a time for farewells as people leave their leisure summer pace and head back to hectic schedules.

Jorlyn,
We’re getting some good suggestions here so be sure to check them out. I think Autumn is my favorite season with my birthday right in the middle of all the splash of colors : ) I like your choice of words…

My favorite season to LIVE is Autumn! The cool breeze, the crunchy leaves under your feet, the long-sleeved cotton t-shirts. I guess I don’t look at the season a story is written of, rather the wonderful adventures within! Kathleen

Kathleen,
Thanks for stopping by! I don’t usually check the seasons of a novel either, but I do enjoy matching up some stories to the holidays I’m celebrating throughout the year.

My Oct. 1 2012 release A Flight of Fancy (Revell Books) is specifically set in the autumn.
My Oct. 30 book The Carpenter’s Inheritance (Harlequin Heartsong) is set specifically in the autumn. The cover is even an autumn scene with the bright foliage of autumn in New England.

My debut novel BURNING HEARTS is set in September, 1946. It’s a Romantic Mystery (arson/murder, action, sweet romance, sophisticated themes presented tastefully).
PERILOUS SHADOWS, book three in the same Sanctuary Point series is set as college starts in 1947. (a coed found dead at radio station, news professionals hunt killer, sweet romance, warm intimacy, sophisticated themes presented tastefully).

Thanks, Nike. I will add these to the list. If I remember correctly, aren’t these books set in Long Island? Since we visit there often, this would definitely catch my interest.
