Welcome to my Christmas Corner. I do hope you will find time to write, submit and polish your craft this season. But I know Christmas is on everyone’s minds and in our conversations and plans. So let’s talk about it as we head towards December. We all want our Christmas to be special. It doesn’t always turn out that way. Now is the time to figure out what works and what doesn’t (from past experience) and to simplify. Another wonderful word – SIMPLIFY! I’m making lists, to-do and not to do. Some things I’ll change. Other things I refuse to change.
Like Christmas Cards. Love writing and sending them. Love receiving them. Emails don’t cut it. Opening the mailbox and finding it full of personal Christmas greetings still feels magical.
As you plan for the holiday this year, what is one tradition you refuse to give up?
Update: The deadline for comments to win the Chicken Soup for the Soul book is December 1st. So you still have time to add your comment to Awesome Alley. Next week we’ll talk about Christmas gifts with a new giveaway, in the spirit of Christmas!
The one tradition I’d never give up is Christmas Eve candlelight service with my family.

Jean,
Sounds like a beautiful tradition worth holding on to, good for you! And it certainly focuses on the true meaning of Christmas. God bless you and your family this season.

Christmas Eve with family. My daughter created a touching video of family members who had recently passed away. Precious Memories every one. It all centers on family.
One thought keeps ringing true: God is good all the time! No matter what we are going through. . . He is always good! Make every event in your life a testimony of this truth.
Merry Christmas

Melody,
You finally made it to Lovely Lane! Well, Christmas Corner, anyway. Thanks for your sweet comment on family and the thoughts on those who have gone on before us. God does give us those precious memories to hold on to. A blessed Christmas to you, my friend.

The one tradition I’m not willing to give up is the greeting, “Merry Christmas” even though I’ve felt the pressure sometimes not to say it.

It’s funny you asked this on the loop because I just talked to my youngest son about this the other day — what things were most meaningful to him, what he remembered most … that kind of thing. For Christmas we both really treasure the reading of the real Christmas story that we always do on Christmas morning. When my boys were younger my husband and I would read it to them. As they got older and could read themselves, they started participating with us. I loved that he picked that as his favorite too. :o)

Margaret,
What a beautiful tradition. God bless you for being such an example to your children and showing them the truth of what Christmas really is – a celebration of our Savior’s birth. Emmanuel, God with us!

I have two Traditions I am unwilling to give up . The first is decorating the inside of my home, all the snowmen and decorations are like old friends, I see once a year. The other is Candle Light Service at Church. The true meaning of Christmas is the Birth of Our Saviour Jesus Christ. Not how much money we spend in the stores.
That said,
Happy Christmas to All

Donna,
And I bet your historic home looks wonderful with Christmas decor and your creative flair! It’s encouraging to see others mention their candlelight services, truly the heart of Christmas is worshiping Jesus. Good to hear from you and looking forward to all your continued “writing success” in the new year.
