A Word: Nest

A WORD: Nest – Noun (from Wiktionary)

nest ‎(plural nests)

  1. A structure built by a bird as a place to incubate eggs and rear young.
  2. A snug, comfortable, or cozy residence or job situation.
  3. A retreat, or place of habitual resort.

My husband moved the new nest from our porch light so we wouldn’t disturb the birds going to and fro. He placed it in our old Christmas wreath on the garage. (the wreath had many different types of greenery so when it dried, I kept it)

And it worked…the birds are content to come and go and they like their new location. It is interesting to notice the changes in the nest as they continue to bring twigs and nest-building material to decorate their new home.

Following their example, I am also in Spring mode and adapting my own cozy nest to welcome the warmer weather and brighter days.

What do you do in your home when Spring finally arrives?

  • Lace curtains?
  • Bright, colorful throw pillows?
  • Beachy decor?

Please leave a comment to share your suggestions for creating a sweet Spring-time nest.

  1. I love Spring – so what do I do to welcome this most wonderful season? Finish taking down the Christmas decorations!

I did put new flower pots for the spot by my back door. They’re a bright bluish-green, sort of turquoise color. Now, to buy the flowers to go in them when our mid-May cold snap goes away.

  2. Connie,
You know, I bet you really do still have Christmas decorations up : )
Flowers sound wonderful and hopefully the weather will cooperate. Our temps keep going up and down and all around…

  3. I purchased a couple of new items to decorate the front porch with. I also hung the spring decorations on the outside of our privacy fence to brighten the dreary old wood look. My nest is full, full, full! I told hubby that the only way I can redecorate the inside of the house is to take stuff out to bring different stuff in. I did change the accents in the kitchen. They went from dark red to apple green. It’s okay. I really like my little house. Anita
