Love, love, love my library! Here’s the proof above, moi volunteering at one of their local book sales. And whoever says books are going out of style, obviously hasn’t been to one of these sales recently.
I’ve been a loyal card-carrying library patron since I was old enough to pencil in an application form. And I’m also guilty of library-hopping, from branch to branch. This one has more magazines I like, that one has a wider selection of dvd’s and another one has an outstanding collection of Christian fiction! There is the small, quaint village library in an old historical building, with all its delightful twists and turns, or the more modern branch downtown. Each library has its unique character.

Oh, I do hope your library is able to stay open. Is it just monetary donations needed or do they also take book donations? Keep us informed on the progress.

When I was a kid, I spent nearly every Saturday in the library. My mom would drop me off about 10, then I’d read until noon. When she picked me up, we’d have lunch together at the drug store soda fountain. 🙂 I did that for years, until I went to high school.

What wonderful memories! You should write a short story about that, it brings so many images to mind. We had a library close enough to ride my bike to and we also had a “drug store soda fountain.” Those were the simple days : )

I’m a Friends of the Library member and I love it. We do lots of cool things with the kids – reading programs and science shows. It’s a small-town library and struggles with funding – like all of them do. I love that my volunteering allows them to keep up the programs I loved as a kid.

Cynthia, sadly since the advent of the Internet I don’t go to the library nearly as often as I used to. But going to the library was a weekly and much-looked-forward to event in my childhood. I grew up on a farm 8 miles from town so we had to check out enough books to keep us going till the next week. My great-aunt was the head librarian and she was the quintessential librarian who also gave us books for Christmas every year.
When I was 6 I developed asthma and those library books became all the more important to me since I was stuck in the house (wheat and hay seemed to bring on my asthma attacks) while my brother and three sisters played in the barn and rode the tractor with our dad. It could have been a sad time BUT my mother introduced me to chapter books and I learned I could travel ANYWHERE through the pages of a book.

I remember going to the Brandywine branch library when I was maybe 6 years old. I could not believe it when the lady behind the desk told me I could take books home for free! It seemed like the greatest gift anyone could give me. I try to check out libraries wherever I go- even on vacation. My friends in Suffolk county (LI) have a beautiful library with mahogany desks fitted out with green shaded lamps for individual study- they even have a magazine reading room with comfy chairs,a fireplace and hot chocolate for sale! I agree with Cynthia- I love, love . love libraries! I hope they never go out of style!
