Upstate Winter - c.a. lovely
It’s a black and white world today after our latest winter storm. Contemplating the new year of 2014 and all its amazing opportunities. Wondering if I should list goals or go with the one “word” for the year idea.
Hmm…right now I’m going to focus on one goal. Journaling. I want to get back to recording thoughts, ideas, inspiration, quotes, and day to day events of all God is doing in my life. Not in a “have to every day” style, but at least once a week to keep up on what’s happening in my world. This benefits my private time with the Lord and my relationships and my writing.
Journaling is free-flow. The pressure is off to make every word perfect. Today’s journal started like this: I’m sitting by the window looking out on my black and white world, filled with soft, fluffy snow. The sun is out and the storm is over though the temps are frigid. I listen to the purr of the electric fireplace, admire the golden holiday decorations and inhale the scent of freshly baked banana bread. It’s Winter in my country farmhouse in upstate NY. God is good. I am content.
Do you journal? Do you have one specific goal you’d like to reach for in 2014?

Great post. It spoke to me in many ways. This year my word/phrase is “follow through”. I love to think about, talk about, and make plans. But, I am weak at following through! This is my year to make things happen, and the only way I can do that is to follow through. Thanks for getting me to acknowledge this on your blog.

Oops! I hit send before I completed my thought. Sorry about that! Anyway, I had made a comment to a family member that 2014 would be an interesting year and it struck me to use that word interesting. I’ve already had the opportunity several times in the first few days of this new year to say “interesting”. ha-ha-ha! Only the Lord knows how many more times I will say that in the coming months. It WILL prove to be an interesting year, I’m sure. LOL!

Hi Cynthia. I’m so jealous of your snow! I so miss upstate New York.
My goals are to resume my three blogs on my web site, although most of those posts will be provided by guests. Therefore, my second goal is to send out work to paying markets on a freelance basis. (I’m actually keeping up with Edie’s ACFW course so far!)

Happy New Year! Anita and I must be joined at the hip. “Interesting” has been MY word forever. It is almost always used when things are not what I expect, but somehow needful. An unexpected twist thrown into my life to broaden my thinking, and start the process of discovering why. It is the go-to word when I have no word to describe the event/situation/or feeling. It is a word to ponder.
Journaling is an important history tool. Want an eye-opener? Do a simple timeline of your life. Then your parents. Be amazed how much you have experienced and how much history you have lived through. Many of us can remember life without TV’s, microwave ovens, or even seat belts! Interesting!:-) Love you all. May your goals be as special as you are.
