Do your characters walk right out of the book? We’re supposed to make them as “real” as possible but where is the fine line of reality and likeability? If I make my character too snarky, someone won’t like her.
Too imperfect, they may get tired of how many times she messes up.
Sweet, charming and beautiful, we’ll all hate her because she’s too good : )
Writers – how do you create believable, likeable characters?
Readers – Tell me about a favorite character in a book you’ve read and why you like them.

One of my favorite characters is Rosalind (Roz) Anthony, the central character in “Promises to Keep,” by Ann Tatlock. Ann developed Roz’s character so richly, I felt like I knew her. I was caught up in Roz’s story and she stayed on my mind long after I’d read the last page.

Hi Sherry,
I guess I’ll have to go read the book to see how the character was developed. I think it helps to go back over the books you really loved and figure out why you liked the characters. Will miss you this week, so hard not to be at Blue Ridge : (

One of my favorite characters from Lorena’s series on Ivy Malone. I love reading about Ivy who is an elderly woman who ends up having to play detective. I have thoroughly enjoyed each story and wish there were more stories in that series.

My favorite character has always been Nancy Drew. I love how she solves crime without getting into too much trouble.

In the Political thrillers Series by Joel C. Rosenberg, Jon Bennett is a great hero and character. He is highly intelligent, a phenomenal communicator, loyal, and dutiful to friends, loved ones and his country. I can’t say more without spoilers, but there is lots more!

Kay,
Sounds like a well-drawn character. My husband reads most of Rosenberg’s books and always enjoys his novels. Thanks for stopping by!

I love Laura of Little House series. She is such a feisty little girl, tomboyish, always into this or that, just enjoying life. Also inquisitive. She is just a very interesting little girl to me and even as she gets older. And, to find out there really was this Laura Ingalls in real life. Also, loved Corrie tenBoom in Hiding Place (non-fiction)
as a Holocaust survivor. She had such strong faith in the LORD.

I love Belle Tanner in The Husband Tree by Mary Connealy. She has grit, gumption, and so much sass. She is a passionate, fun character!
Thanks for a chance to win Lorena’s book.

I’ve enjoyed so many characters throughout the years. Each new book brings such interesting characters. Recently, I found Ann Gabhart’s book Angel Sister and fell in love with Kate, the middle sister. What a trooper!
